It is indeed a privilege and an honor for me to welcome you to St. James (RC) Secondary School website.
We are situated in the suburb of Schauderville in Port Elizabeth. St. James is unique in that it is Catholic School for girls only. The school has a very rich history going back more than 70 years. The Assumption Sisters, who are the owners of the school, initially managed and taught at the school
There has been many changes over the years, and they now only have representation on the Board of Governors. We are eternally grateful to the Sisters for the values that they have instilled into the school, and we commit ourselves to carrying on with the work that they have started.
We are indeed extremely proud of our ex-learners who have gone on to achieve success and greatness in their fields, still practicing the values they were taught at St.James.
I also esteem it as a great honour to be the first male principal of the school. I want to salute and pay tribute to those who have gone before me in laying a solid foundation on which I can build forth. Much thanks to the nuns who served as principals and also Mrs. Corinne Beck, who has been a a role model and mentor to me. Mrs Beck has served the school for 40 years, of which almost 20 years were as the principal.
We aim to bring out the best in our girls through our solid academic programme and extra-mural involvement. We believe that each child has the ability to achieve greatness and it is partially our task, together with the parents to help to unlock that greatness.
We have a fine staff of dedicated, professional educators who often go the extra mile to ensure that our learners enjoy success.
I trust that as you “walk ‘’ through the pages of our website, you will get a glimpse of who we are and what we want to achieve. To those of you who have had an association with the school, be it as a past pupil or educator or parent – I hope that you will enjoy the beautiful memories created by what you will observe.
